Distribution (from Flora of Victoria): Vic, All regions except MMAL, LMAL, OTPL, GHL - also WA, SA, Qld, NSW, Tas, New Zealand. Widespread in cooler parts of the state, occurring mainly in perennial or seasonal swamps and slow moving rivers in the lowlands, and in seepage areas or on bare gravelly or rocky ground in the alps.
Identifying Characteristics: Small herb to 15 cm tall, with rhizomes to 30 cm long. Leaves are erect linear-narrow, 3-10 cm long and 1-4 mm wide that emerge out of the water. Small white flowers are arranged in clusters and held on long erect stalks. Flowers November-March. Neopaxia australasica (Hook.f.) O.Nilsson is more recently known as Montia australasica (Hook.f.)
